The Maguire Academy of Irish Dance is pleased to announce new classes in Tucson starting January 2018: 6 week Introduction to Irish Dance for Beginners: Thursday, 4-5 PM, January 11, 18, 25 & February 1, 8 & 15.  $65 Ceili/performance class for Advanced Beginners – Championship: Ongoing, beginning January 11 – Thursdays, 5-6 PM.  Performance numbers for shows over St Patrick’s Day as well as competition team dances.  No additional charge over regular monthly tuition, but must register. Houston continues to be impacted by the disastrous aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Flooding lingers and rescues are ongoing in severely impacted areas. It will be a very long while before the city and a large majority of its residents are able to recover. Unfortunately, due to this catastrophic event, the Maguire Bayou City Feis scheduled for September 3, 2017 was cancelled earlier this week. Maguire Academy of Irish Dance apologizes for this cancellation but believes that the safety of our Irish Dance community and families is paramount. All dancer registration fees for the 2017 feis have been recorded and will be applied in full to next year’s feis to be held on September 2, 2018. An unprecedented recovery effort is underway with thousands of volunteers and donations not only from Houstonians but across the United States. To support these heroic volunteers and disaster relief organizations, Maguire Academy of Irish Dance will be donating a portion of the dancer registration fees to the American Red Cross. We are highly encouraging our Irish Dance community and families to rally and make donations to one of the many organizations providing aid to those impacted across Texas. We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you for all of the emails, Facebook comments, and texts that continue to come in. Words cannot express how truly inspired we are by the outpouring of support, thoughts and prayers. Once again, we wish to extend our thoughts and prayers to those impacted and offer our assistance. Due to the continued catastrophic impacts of Hurricane Harvey on the entire city of Houston, we regretfully are cancelling the Maguire Bayou City Feis scheduled for Sunday, September 3 as the safety of our dance family and friends is our first priority. The entire city is impassable by car, airports are closed and the rivers and bayous are expected to crest over the weekend causing additional flooding events. Our feis venue at the Hilton Greenspoint has been transitioned into the staging area for the Red Cross and Emergency personnel. As such, we are requesting everyone to please cancel their hotel rooms immediately to release rooms to incoming emergency personnel. We will be following up in the next few days with additional information and details to address questions but wanted to update everyone as soon as possible regarding the feis cancellation to allow the families time to revise their travel plans. We extend our thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by this unprecedented weather event and our deepest gratitude to all of the first responders and people within the community reaching out to assist those in need.
